3 Mistakes to avoid when using fonts for your brand.

I'm making the first blog post about fonts because this is the one topic where I see the most "issues" when looking at people's brands. And this is mainly because it is so easy to make this mistakes if you are not into graphic design.

So, in today’s episode of "Melisa making your life easier": 3 mistakes to avoid when using fonts for your brand.

Let’s get started!

Wrong font selection

MISTAKE #1: Choosing fonts that do not match your brand’s personality

In essence, this means: if you want to look professional, don't use a "comic like" font and if you want to look fun, don't use a super classic font. I've seen this many times, and it can lead to people not trusting your brand or not connecting to it.

MISTAKE #2: Using too many fonts

When in doubt, just stick to a max of 2 fonts. This could mean using one for titles and things you want to stand out (this one could be a little bit more fun and bold), and one for longer texts (this one should be a simple, easy to read font). Using too many different fonts, can lead to your brand being seen as inconsistent and not professional.

MISTAKE #3: Using fonts you have no permission to use

You may or may not know, but even if some fonts that you download from the internet  are free, that does not mean you have permission to use them for your business. In a very general rule: If the license says "free for personal use" you cannot use them for your business assets.
If it says "free for commercial use" you can, BUT still check in the license agreement where it is allowed to use it, because some are allowed for flyers, but not for websites for example.
